The second topic that came into my focus this week is AI. Five years ago people were starting to talk about the role that AI will play in our everyday lives in the future. Today, we already live in that future. AI assistants are everywhere, from our smartphones to our smart houses, the voices of Siri, Alexa and whatever-the-google-one-is-called guide us through our daily lives. When you have a technology that very few people really understand and which yields enormous power over us, it is only normal to have fear in society.

Our society is currently experiencing an unprecedented boom in the fields of technology and science. Things that were thought impossible 50 years ago are now a fact, and the pace at which we progress seems to be still accelerating. This leaves us in a position where the future doesn’t seem fixed anymore — we have no idea what the next great discovery will be or how it will affect us. We have no choice — we have to take it one step at a time and make sure we navigate as well as we can. In order to successfully do that, however, we need leaders that we can trust, leaders that can use the resources of the society for more than the betterment of themselves and their relatives.
