Grind the dried roots, leaves & berries into powder. Sprinkle the gray powder over the fire. Close your eyes and say, “AbraaaaaaCadabraaaaaa.” — In a wink, you will have a magical ancient potion for diarrhea. 😉

M. malabathricum is popular for its medicinal properties among traditional Malaysian folk to treat diarrhea or toothache. Some claim they even use them on elephants! 😮 🐘 Seriously?!

Grows wild in most types of soil as free-flowering shrubs between 1 to 3m tall. Branches have bristly scales with tiny hairs. Flowers last for a day, growing in clusters. The fruit is berrylike and stains the tongue black if eaten, leading it to be called “melastoma” in Greek for “black mouth.” Often used to create a natural black dye.

In the USA, it’s considered a weed. 😄
