Shattered Wings

LOVE | SACRIFICE | HEARTBREAK | SALVATION

A poem for the angel who met me at my low to help me discover my high.

As I was injected into this chaotic world,

White wings were soldered to my shoulder blades.

Intended to help me navigate this life,

To soar above the sadness and find my destiny.

Countless flights have left me bare,

And few white feathers remain.

Most have been plucked from bone,

Wings eviscerated by cruel winds of heartbreak.

.

Crashing into the wasteland of fallen angels,

You weren’t there to catch me.

You slowly descended into my crater,

Extract feathers from your own wings for mine.

.

Secured onto my wings with love and patience,

You filled in the gaps with precision.

Your blue feathers striking amongst my few white,

It was you who made it possible for me to take flight.

.

You saw one of my wings,

Bent but not broken you always said.

You carved slivers of bone from yours to splint mine,

In hopes, I may navigate the skies once again.

.

Flapping my newly mended wings with ferocity,

I disappeared into the dark horizon alone.

Leaving you weakened,

I was only able to fly at the expense of you.

.

I’m back in my crater now,

A patchwork of bald spots, blue feathers, and a few white.

Miraculously, you touch down in my crater once more,

Revealing your own hodgepodge of blue and gold feathers.

Someone met you in your crater while I was gone,
