An Op-Ed I never got around to writing and that the venerable LA Times would never have published anyway would have called on the LA City Council to pursue a public bank in Los Angeles, as Oakland…

Reflection

I started off with the idea of researching on dogs because I have a fond love for dogs but since I had to get a little more specific so I decided to focus on service dogs. At first, I wanted to know why we tend to treat service dogs differently or why they don’t receive the recognition for their hard work. I then later realized that it would be very difficult to do research on those topics so I ended up getting even more specific and came to the conclusion to write about the debate about service dogs vs. emotional support dogs and how it leads to service dog fraud and the laws set upon them.

To be honest, the whole research process was very difficult for me. I wanted to change my topic various times because nothing that I was finding was clicking or I felt was not good enough to write. I also felt like I was really limited to sources because I was not finding that much about service dogs. Also keeping in mind that english is my weakest subject and I was feeling overwhelmed about writing about the same subject all semester. I ended up sticking to my original topic and tried to really dig through the internet about service dogs and the laws about service animal fraud and I ended up succeeding in doing so. I found credible and reliable sources to pick out from to support my topic.

I usually don’t like receiving feedback or other people reading my work but I have come to learn that it actually helps me become a better writer. As I kept turning in all 5 drafts of my blogs, I received helpful feedback from my peers because I would agree with their comments most of the time, therefore, I would go in and change it for my final post. I faced a few challenges writing out my drafts because I would not know how to transition my sentences or paragraphs so I would get stuck sometimes or even how to explain my quotes from my essays. Despite my struggles in writing my blogs and my research essay, I was able to finish all of them successfully with the helpful feedback from my peers and my professor.

Before taking English 214, I took the stretch 104/105 my first year in college which helped me grow a lot as a reader, writer, and critical thinker. As I’ve mentioned before english is my least favorite subject just because I have always struggled with what it comes with. I always felt like I was never a creative writer so I would not really try. But now that I am coming to an end with english 214, I can say that I have learned so much about writing and how to write more freely rather than always sticking to 5-paragraph essays back in high school. I’ve seen myself grow and become a more independent writer since I’ve been writing about things I’m truly passionate about ever since I got to college. Overall, taking english has been a life changer since it helps express my real life thoughts on paper and the way I think.
