Using VS Code to connect to github Repositories

Hello World!

Today we are going to take a look at how to connect to a public Github repository using Visual Studio Code.

This can be done by using an extension made by Github, called GitHub Repositories. It’s not an extension i see often advertised on Medium, so i’ve decided to make this article to let more people know of this awesome plugin.

The first thing we need to do is to download Github Repositories from the marketplace:

When it is installed we can press F1 (or ctrl+shift+p on Win and cmd+shift+p on Mac) and search for Github Repositories

Now that we are connected to the repository we can edit the code and try it out without having to pull the repo manually in a local folder in our drive.

We also have access to all of the Git functionalities. So we can commit and push the code whenever we need to make a change.

That’s all for today!
