Beautiful Destruction

Stories. Stories begin in far off lands, and in stories, princesses marry their princes, and the villain ends powerless. What follows in these pages can hardly be described simply as a story. There are princesses and princes, wizards and warlocks, agree and trolls, but there is no happily ever after. No knight in shining armour. No final rescue. There is life. And there is death. Because this is not a story. This is history.

A very long time ago, our country – Taedium – was overflowing with magical creatures who lived in peaceful harmony with the humans. Taedium was ruled by a representative of humans and one of the magical beings. 200 years ago, a man by the name of Morgenstern became representative of humanity. Morgenstern turned on the magical beings (for whom the proper term is Fae) and killed his fellow leader. Most Fae fled to the neighbouring country, Elipeda, but a handful stayed, hidden in the shadows and alleyways of Taedium.

10 years into Morgenstern’s reign, three extraordinar individuals were born:

A baby boy who grew up on the street as a thief.

A baby girl who was found outside of a pub, and raised to be assassin.

A boy left at an apothecary, brought up by the local pharmacist.

These three individuals had only one thing in common: they were alone. Each of them had been left by someone, at some point. However, fate has a funny way of bringing together those who are alone. Even if it is in the oddest ways possible.
